Cryopreservation and storage facilities for your fertility journey

Cryopreservation and storage facilities for your fertility journey

Cryopreservation has opened up new avenues and futures for fertility journeys everywhere. Whether you’re making the important decision to freeze your eggs or freeze your sperm, secure cryopreservation facilities enhance the options you have in hand.

In many ways, freezing has become a part of other fertility treatments such as IVF. During the IVF cycle, the ovaries are stimulated to produce as many eggs as possible.

Because only two embryos, on average, are transferred into the uterus during any treatment cycle (a full treatment cycle, i.e. all the monitoring, tests and procedures required in a full episode of treatment), there is a strong likelihood that there may be more embryos that have formed after the cycle is completed.

At itrust fertility, we offer secure facilities to freeze and store these spare embryos for another treatment cycle (a full treatment cycle, i.e. all the monitoring, tests and procedures required in a full episode of treatment) at a later date.

We know that today, fertility isn’t always a straightforward process; that’s why we try to boost your chances by making sure you don’t need to undergo several rounds of the same procedure.

Our team’s approach to fertility goes beyond a one-and-done treatment. We help you protect your health and ensure your personalised needs are met every step of the way.

Here’s how.

Step 01

Once the IVF cycle is complete and the embryo transfer has been done, the remaining embryos are assessed for their quality and suitability.

Step 02

High-quality embryos are chosen for freezing. The stage of embryo development on the day of the transfer, and the likelihood that the embryo will survive cryopreservation, are all taken into consideration.

The answers to your cryopreservation questions

How long can frozen embryos be stored?

Frozen embryos have a statutory storage period of up to ten years. You can choose to store frozen embryos for any period up to ten years or extend this window to suit your specific circumstances, after consulting your fertility specialist and storage facility.

Are there any steps I need to take once my samples are safely in storage?

The only thing you will need to worry about in the time between the storage of your sample and choosing to thaw and use the sample in your fertility treatment is paying the ongoing storage fees at your facility.
Your clinic will make sure you’re aware of this fee before you consent to the procedure.

Can spare eggs or sperm samples be cryopreserved at itrust fertility?

Yes, we offer freezing and storage for embryos, eggs, and sperm at our secure facilities. Visit our sperm freezing and egg freezing treatment pages for more information.

What are spare embryos?

When individuals go through treatment cycles (a full treatment cycle, i.e. all the monitoring, tests and procedures required in a full episode of treatment) for either IVF or ICSI or a similar procedure, it is common that the embryos that are formed outnumber the number of embryos transferred in the first cycle.

These embryos can be used in yet another cycle or in an attempt to conceive again if the first cycle leads to a pregnancy. These are what we refer to as spare embryos and they give us the opportunity to support your fertility journey and attempts to conceive without needing to restart treatment cycles (a full treatment cycle, i.e. all the monitoring, tests and procedures required in a full episode of treatment) completely.

The embryos can be stored for up to ten years.
