You may choose to use an egg donor for any number of reasons.

This is suited for individuals who are unable to produce their own eggs or when the number of follicles and viable eggs you produce run out. Some warning signs to look out for are irregular or absent periods.

This can happen when you reach your early 40s, late 30s or sometimes at an earlier age.

Certain medical conditions or illnesses can harm your fertility or make it difficult or dangerous to attempt to conceive. You may also choose to use donor egg treatment if you wish to avoid passing on a genetic disorder of some form.

Treatment using donor eggs may be a safer and potentially more successful fertility option.

female egg

The eggs are sourced externally from either a family member or friend who is willing and able to donate.

Alternatively, the egg may be provided by an anonymous donor.

The individual who will be receiving the egg will need to have hormone therapy. This is to match their menstrual cycle with that of the donor’s and prepare them to receive the embryo when it is ready to implant.

If a frozen egg has been chosen for this procedure, the egg will be left in the same state until the recipient is ready. Then it will be thawed and fertilised before it is transferred.

All itrust fertility centres provide counselling prior to the treatment to ensure you have a full understanding of the process.
