Embryo donor treatment for your fertility journey

Embryo donor treatment for your fertility journey

Learn all about the procedure and why it may be the right option for you.

Learn all about the procedure and why it may be the right option for you.

Your fertility journey may not always be as straightforward as you would like it to be, but our team of fertility specialists are always on hand to make sure your health and your needs are protected every step of the way.

This includes making sure that you are informed of all your options, especially if a treatment you chose didn’t result in the ideal outcome.

Our embryo donor treatment is a great option for a range of circumstances and fertility challenges.

Treatment using donor embryos involves using donor eggs and sperm to form an embryo inside a lab before it is transferred into the uterus to be carried for the length of a natural pregnancy.

Those who are undergoing, or have undergone, fertility treatments in the past may still have frozen embryos preserved for their own use that they may choose to donate. If that is the case, these embryos are used in this procedure.

In other circumstances, you can go through donor profiles and choose the best candidates for donor eggs and sperm for the creation of the embryo.

Our process

The itrust fertility embryo donor treatment process

I Trust Fertility - website icons - Sperm freezing

The cycle begins once you have chosen your donors. The cryogenically preserved sperm sample will be procured before being thawed, washed, and prepped. It will then be introduced to the donated egg sample inside a laboratory.

If you have chosen fully formed embryos that have been donated, these will be brought in their frozen form, thawed, and prepared for use on the same day the transfer will take place.

To boost the chances of successful implantation, medication will be needed to prepare the uterus to receive the embryo. This cycle will be similar to what is needed during an IVF treatment before the embryo is transferred.

In addition to the procedure, individuals seeking an embryo donor treatment will be required to undergo counselling. We provide all the necessary support services before the procedure begins to make sure all its implications are understood.

We prioritise this process because treatment using donor embryos, sperm or eggs may have social, legal, and sometimes ethical considerations you need to assess.

Understanding what the process is and what it may mean for your future will address any concerns you have at this stage.

Understanding treatment using donor embryos

Modern fertility treatments are promising but it can still be an uncomfortable or unsettling feeling when you undergo treatment cycles (a full treatment cycle, i.e. all the monitoring, tests and procedures required in a full episode of treatment) or choose a fertility service you don’t know much about.

That’s where we come in with our hands-on guidance and support to help you choose the right fertility treatment for you. We keep you informed through it all.

Understanding treatment using donor embryos

Do I get to choose my donors?

Yes. Our process begins by allowing you to review profiles of male and female donors until you find the ones you believe will be an appropriate match for you.

If you choose embryos donated by another couple, you will also receive a profile of these individuals. The information provided will conceal their identity, however, to maintain their privacy.

Can people I know be my donors?

Yes, you can choose friends or relatives who are willing to donate samples to be your donors. If you choose a donor from our profiles, however, you will not be able to meet your donors in person. Your donors will also not receive any identifying information about you.

How are donors selected?

There are a host of requirements outlined by the HFEA that donors must meet before they are selected.

Egg donors must generally be between the ages of 18 and 35, while sperm donors are between 18 and 41 years of age.

They all undergo a series of checkups and tests to make sure their donations don’t pass on viruses or medical conditions that could hurt the quality of the donation, and the health of any children born through it. These tests include screening for hepatitis and HIV.
