Considering a surrogate pregnancy?

Considering a surrogate pregnancy?

Choosing the right fertility option is easier when you discuss the journey ahead with our experts.

Choosing the right fertility option is easier when you discuss the journey ahead with our experts.

There are a multitude of ways through which you can potentially become a parent.

Encountering challenges during your fertility journey is more common than you may think, but here at itrust fertility, we are committed to providing you with a path that is safe and supportive of your needs.

Surrogacy is one method that many individuals turn to as a first resort or after circumstances that make it impossible or dangerous for them to carry a pregnancy to its full term by themselves.

A surrogate is someone who is willing to carry and give birth to your baby for you. This has become an increasingly popular method through which you can become a parent, regardless of your circumstances.

Because of the—often complex—processes involved in creating a surrogate arrangement, however, it is in your best interest to be as informed as possible before choosing this option.

HOW IT WORKS

The surrogate process

The surrogate process

If you’re thinking about choosing a surrogate to conceive a child, there are two main options available to you.

If you’re thinking about choosing a surrogate to conceive a child, there are two main options available to you.

1. Host surrogacy

The first method is when you provide an embryo through IVF. The embryo can be formed using eggs that you provide yourself, the surrogate’s eggs, or the eggs of an egg donor.

The embryo is then transferred to the surrogate for potential pregnancy and delivery.

2. Traditional surrogacy

With the advent of IVF, this method is used less and less but it is still an option for you if you’re thinking of using this method.

In a traditional arrangement, your chosen surrogate will provide her own egg for fertilisation through a semen sample gathered with IUI.

What to expect

As impossible as it may be to prepare yourself for every possible outcome of your surrogate arrangement, being informed of the process and your fertility options is the best way to be as ready as you can for the months ahead.

Book an initial consultation with an itrust fertility expert to learn more about why a surrogate arrangement may be the best option for you.

Here at I Trust Fertility, we understand the value of cryopreservation and the opportunities they present to make your fertility journey smoother and the least invasive it can be.

Studies have shown that the results of frozen embryo transfers are the same—if not better—when embryos are used in several treatment cycles as opposed to the embryos that are transferred directly after the egg collection process.

Our IVF programme is supported by our cryopreservation storage facilities and is an essential part of what we do here at I Trust Fertility.

What’s the process for choosing a surrogate?

Many people looking to conceive through a surrogate may opt to ask a family member or a friend to carry their child for them.

If this option isn’t available to you or is not the right option for you, you will then need to find a surrogate through a different method.

There are agencies that can connect you with a surrogate while providing you with the guidance you need through the entire process, from matching you with prospective surrogates to legal support. This is important because, on top of the emotional fertility journey, this can also be a legally complex treatment process.

itrust fertility centres, unfortunately, cannot help you find a surrogate. If you have questions about whether this treatment is the best option for you, however, our fertility experts will be more than happy to help you create a personalised fertility plan.

Does the age of the surrogate matter?

Many factors are considered when choosing the best surrogate for you, and age is one key factor.

If your surrogate arrangement calls for the potential surrogate mother to use her own eggs, additional tests will be performed to determine her egg reserve. This information will inform your fertility expert’s discussion of the potential success rate you may be able to anticipate from your treatment.

How successful is surrogacy?

Just like any other fertility treatment option, it is impossible to predict the outcome of your treatment accurately.

The success of the surrogate process will, however, depend on your chosen surrogate’s ability to carry the pregnancy as well as the quality of the eggs and sperm used in the cycle.
